The man who has been named as Irish athlete Craig Lynch.
The dad-of-one tragically died after the car he was driving struck a wall at around 1.40am on Sunday morning.
The 29-year-old was killed in which happened on the R163 at Headfort between Kells and Oristown.
He represented Team Ireland in the 400m event at the European Championships back in 2016.
His local running club paid tribute on Sunday to one of its "most talented athletes".

In a statement the Co Cavan club, Shercock AC, said: "Following the tragic death of Craig Lynch, one of our most talented athletes, in a car accident last night, our thoughts and sympathies are with his parents, brothers, sisters, daughter, fiancée and all family members, indeed the whole Shercock community at this sad time. Rest in Peace Craig."
Lynch was also part of the Ireland team that ran alongside Thomas Barr, Dara Kervick, Brian Murphy, Brian Gregan and Richard Morrissey in the 2015 World Relay Championships.
No funeral arrangements have yet been made for the popular school teacher who was due to get married.
Meanwhile, his body was removed on Sunday morning to the mortuary at Navan Hospital. Gardai confirmed they are investigating the crash and appealed for witnesses to come forward.
A garda spokesman added: "Anyone with information is asked to contact Kells Garda Station 046-9280820 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111."
