Irish actress Jessie Buckley opens up about battling panic attacks as teenager

Actress Jessie Buckley has opened up on battling panic attacks as a teen, admitting she still has days where crippling anxiety takes hold.

The Kerry stunner told how she’s learnt to cope with the bad days, explaining how her mental health issues left her “scared” in adolescence.

Jessie, 29 said: “It’s definitely better, but I’m still human. I still have days when I get sad. And I get days when I get happy, and I get days when I get scared.”

The rising star said accepting her feelings has helped in her healing process.

She added: “But now I feel the things. I’m not frightened of them. And actually they’re all important.

“You’ve just got to accept them, invite them in and say, ‘Have a cup of tea and what’s going on?’, instead of trying to repress them.

“Which I probably did when I was young, because I was scared of them.”

The stunner told the Evening Standard Magazine that regularly seeing her therapist has helped to overcome her mental health issues.

She said: “It’s harder (to do) when you’re away filming, because you have to build that relationship up.

“But I b****y love it. It’s been brilliant for me. It’s about being honest. There’s no point pretending.

“If I don’t do that in my own life, how the hell am I meant to play somebody else’s?’

Earning worldwide fame earlier this year when she took on the role of Lyudmilla Ignatenko, in the acclaimed series Chernobyl, Jessie is on par with Saoirse Ronan, landing epic Hollywood roles.

The beauty stars alongside Renée Zellweger as the legendary Judy Garland, in a biopic about the Wizard Of Oz star’s visit to London in the weeks before her death.

Heaping praise on her Hollwyood co- star she said: “Renée has been such an absolute babe.

“We both love Susan Tedeschi, and she’s like: ‘’She’s playing next week, why don’t you come over?’’

“Yeah, she’s been lovely. She was really kind — even some mornings in the trailer, she’d show this really warm, protective heart. Just little things, looking out for me on the film.”

On her upcoming series, Fargo, which begins filming later this year, she said: “I’m looking forward to relocating for six months.

“Sometimes it’s hard, but I’ve had a bit of time to get hungry again. And I’m ready for an adventure.”
