Irish actor Patrick Bergin tells of heartbreak after losing partner's dog

Irish actor Patrick Bergin has told that how he was heartbroken after his partner's dog died.

The former EastEnders star, 68, explained how the couple were devastated after his partner Helen's dog died last October.

He said: “Dog lovers will understand the unique bond that humans and dogs have and the pain you feel when your four-legged friend passes.

"I have spent most of my working life traveling from place to place, so I was never able to commit to taking on a dog of my own, but I have always been a dog person.

“Shiloh was my partner, Helen’s, dog and we grew very close over the years. He held a very special place in my heart, and we were absolutely devastated when he passed away."

The Patriot Games actor was speaking on Thursday as Dogs Trust Ireland launched a special Legacy Garden at its Finglas rehoming centre where bereaved dog owners can honour their four-legged friends.

The garden features a dog sculpture where people can hang an engraved commemorative dog tag in tribute to their deceased pooches.

The tag will remain in the garden forever and grieving dog owners can visit the garden to reflect and remember their faithful friend after they have passed away.
