Irish actor Michael Fassbender reveals dream to compete in coveted motor race in new YouTube series

Irish actor turned motorsport star Michael Fassbender has documented his dream to compete at one of the sports most prestigious races in a new YouTube series.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans race, which takes place in France next summer is one of the most hotly-contested competitions in the world.

The Hollywood star is no stranger to the sport, having acted as the ambassador for the 2019 Rally of the Lakes in his native Co Kerry.

Unlike typical motor races where the winner is determined by first-past-the-post, the 24-Hours of Le Mans awards a win to the car that covers the greatest distance in 24 hours.

Fassbender's journey from a relative racing novice to a potential competitor for Porsche will be documented in the new series, which  premiers on October 11 - with new episodes releasing on a weekly basis.

The Irish actor has previously raced several rounds in the one-make Ferrari Challenge series behind the wheel of a factory-built 488 Challenge race car, where he saw success obtaining 5 podium finishes and 1 win in the 11 races he entered.

He currently races in the Porsche Super Sports Cup in Germany where he drives the #93 911 GT3 Cup for the Manthey Racing Team.

In a trailer for the upcoming show, Fassbender said: "I've just always felt drawn to going fast into a corner—and fast out—and just naturally felt connected to it,"

"And now I want to go to the ultimate place.

"I think it's the history of the place. I think it's the drivers that crashed there, or competed there, or won there. To be a part of that would be, you know, unbelievable."

Porsche has a long history in helping Hollywood actors achieve their dreams of taking part in the coveted race.

In 1979 Paul Newman won his class in a Porsche 935, while Patrick Dempsey is a recent class winner both as a driver and as a team manager thanks to a Porsche 911 RSR GTE.
