Irish actor lands major role in second season of hit Netflix show Bridgerton

Netflix has announced four major characters for season two of hit period drama Bridgerton - with an Irish actor among the new names.

Calam Lynch will link up with fellow Derry Girls star Nicola Coughlan when Theo Sharpe, a hardworking printer's assistant, arrives.

But he's not just a working-class man, he's also an intellectual who fights for the rights for all.

Lynch is one of four names set to join the series.

Charithra Chandran will play Edwina Sharma, who has been taught by her older sister Kate (another new name, played by Sex Education star Simone Ashley) to be the perfect debutante.

Edwina is kind-natured and endlessly endearing - however, though she is young and slightly naive, she also knows what she wants: a true love match.

Shelley Conn joins the series to play Mary Sharma, an Earl’s daughter whose marriage to a tradesman once brought her family into a scandal.

But now, Lady Mary has returned to London with her daughters and faces scrutiny once more.

Rupert Young takes on the role of Jack, the newest member of the ton with a connection to one of the major families .

Season two will focus on Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey), with production beginning this month in London.

But they will be without a major star.
