Irish actor Anthony Boyle cast in Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg’s new WWII epic

Derry Girls and The Plot Against America star Anthony Boyle has been cast in Apple’s World War II TV drama 'Masters of the Air.'

With Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks involved in the production, the WWII drama is a spiritual companion piece to Band of Brothers and The Pacific.

Based on the book by Donald L. Miller, Masters of the Air will follow the true, deeply personal story of the American bomber boys in World War II who brought the war to Hitler’s doorstep.

The series will be written by Band of Brothers alumnus John Orloff, who is also a co-executive producer.

Steven Spielberg is executive producing via his Amblin Television banner, alongside Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman for Playtone.

Boyle joins previously announced cast members Callum Turner and Austin Butler.

Aside from his TV work, the Northern Irish actor also played Scorpius Malfoy in the play 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,' for which he won an Olivier Award.

Given the remarkable acting talent that was assembled for the production of Band of Brothers - Damian Lewis, Ron Livingston, Andrew Scott, Donnie Wahlberg, James McAvoy Dominic Cooper, Colin Hanks, David Schwimmer, Simon Pegg, Michael Fassbender and even a young Tom Hardy all featured - Boyle's piece of casting news is a very significant seal of approval.
