Irina Shayk says she grew up feeling like she was born into the wrong body

Fiery, fierce and fabulous, Irina Shayk has been dominating the runway game for years as she continues to pave the way for women in fashion.

But it might come as a surprise to know that supermodel Irina grew up with a slight sense of confusion when it came to her identity - feeling like she was born into the wrong body from a young age.

The Russian beauty, 34, has revealed she felt like she should have been a boy during her childhood.

Speaking to British Vogue, Irina said: “I felt I was supposed to be a boy.

“Maybe it’s because my father always wanted a boy."

She added: “When my father passed away I thought, ‘Since I’m a guy, now it’s my time to take care of the family’.

“Later on in life I outgrew that, and I love being a woman.”

The runway star also opened up about her recent breakup with Hollywood actor Bradley Cooper, and how the exes make co-parenting work.

The 34-year-old model has kept reasonably quiet about the split from Hollywood actor and director Bradley, 45, after they parted ways under intense media speculation about his relationship with A Star Is Born co-star, Lady Gaga.

Irina said that she feels "very lucky" to have spent four years with Bradley, which brought their daughter Lea De Seine Shayk Cooper, who is now two years old.

The pair met in 2015, with their relationship coming to an end in June 2019 and Irina was in a reflective mood when she spoke to the magazine.

Irina said: "I think we've been very lucky to experience what we had with each other."

She went on to say that: "Life without B is new ground."

Bradley co-parents their daughter with Irina but she has admitted that being a single mum for most of the time has brought its challenges.

She said: "It’s hard to find a balance between being a single mom and being a working woman and provider.

"Trust me, there are days I wake up and I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I don’t know what to do, I’m falling apart.'"

Despite her doubts about parenting, Irina remains philosophical about her break up from Bradley.

She continued: "I think in all good relationships you bring your best and your worst - it’s just the nature of a human being.

"Two great people don’t have to make a good couple."
