IRFU apologise after Wales women's team left without warm water for showers after Ireland clash

The IRFU have apologised after the Welsh women's rugby team were left to take cold showers following their clash with Ireland during Storm Ciara today.

Ireland ran out 31-12 winners in the Six Nations clash at a freezing Donnybrook, with both sets of players battling monsoon-like conditions for much of the second-half as Storm Ciara battered the country.

And after the game, Welsh player Robyn Wilkins revealed that there was no warm water for showers in the away dressing room straight after the clash at Energia Park.

The Wales Rugby Union confirmed that the players eventually got access to warm showers, with the IRFU apologising to the team.

The association cited issues with the water heater in their changing room as the reason for the problem, thanking the players for their understanding.

The IRFU tweeted: "The IRFU have apologised to the Welsh rugby team for an issue with the water heater in their changing room today. Every effort was made to resolve the problem & extra amenities were provided.

"The IRFU would like to thank the team for their understanding & apologise again."

"I think the girls are a bit disappointed with cold showers in the dressing room," said Wilkins.

"It's not ideal but we're a close-knit bunch and we'll come together."
