Ireland 'wet pubs' opening date 'agreed' as Cabinet to share good news

Cabinet have agreed a definite date for when "wet pubs" can reopen following mounting pressure from publicans and politicians.

Pubs that do not serve food will reopen on September 21 but will be subject to local restrictions if they arise.

Draft guidelines were issued to Vintner groups over the weekend, drawn up by Fáilte Ireland and are broadly similar to those issued to pubs which have been serving food.

But time slots of 105 minutes would not be a requirement where social distancing of two metres can be maintained.

Publicans from Tipperary have travelled up to Dublin and are due to protest outside of Leinster House shortly over their closure for more than six months.

Rural Independent TD Danny Healy-Rae told the Irish Mirror that he won’t believe their reopening until he sees it.
