Ireland weather: Widespread heavy showers with chance of thunder today

Last night’s unsettled weather will continue this week with rain expected today, tomorrow and Tuesday.

Met Eireann revealed we'll see a mix of sunny spells and scattered heavy showers for Father's Day.

A forecaster said: "The showers will affect the western half of the country at first and will become widespread later this morning with a chance of thunder.

"They'll gradually die out this evening, Highest temperatures of 15C to 18C with fresh gusty west to southwest winds."

Meanwhile, tonight will be mostly dry but rain will develop in the southwest around midnight.

The showers will spread over the country by morning with fresh southerly winds.

Heading into Monday, we'll see mild and humid conditions with highs of 16C to 20C.

However, Connacht and Leinster will be lashed by heavy outbreaks of rain during the afternoon and evening.

But Munster and east Leinster will enjoy some dry spells also.

Monday night will be very mild and humid with rain in many areas. Lowest temperatures of 12C to 16C.

A similar pattern will continue on Tuesday with further spells of rain in many areas.

Temperatures will reach highs of 15C to 19C with moderate to fresh southerly breezes.

On Tuesday night, rain will continue and it will be very mild with lowest temperatures of 11C to 14C degrees.
