Ireland weather: Wet and wild conditions to hit certain areas as Met Eireann issues five-day forecast

Ireland has faced some rocky weather over the past week, with spouts of snow, rain and wind battering the country.

Over the weekend alone there were Orange and Yellow wind warnings issued to nearly every county.

However, the week ahead looks like it could calm down, with 'generally mild' weather promised.

The sharp cold could stay in some places with scattered showers hitting midweek.

There is some good news for those sick of the cold, however, as there is no snow forecasted for the next week.

Monday

On Monday, scattered outbreaks of rain will gradually clear northeastwards with drier, brighter conditions following.

There is the risk of a few isolated showers, with highest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees and moderate to fresh southerly winds.

By evening, southerly winds will strengthen once again with rain moving into the southwest after dark.

Blustery showers are expected overnight, with a low of 5 to 8 degrees.

Tuesday

Tuesday brings a mix of cloud and sunny spells with widespread showers across the country.

The highest temperatures will range from 8 to 11 degrees, with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.

Another band of rain will cross the country from the southwest on Tuesday night, with a low of 3 to 6 degrees.

Wednesday

Wednesday is looking to be the wettest of the week, with a day of scattered showers.

Rain will be most frequent in the south and west, but it'll be mostly dry further east.

Highs of 7 to 10 degrees in a moderate southwesterly breeze.

A spell of more persistent rain will move into southern areas on Wednesday evening, clearing eastward later in the night.

Wednesday night will gradually get colder after the rain clears with lows of 1 to 3 degrees.

Thursday

The rain will clear on Thursday morning, giving way to a mostly dry day with sunny spells.

There will be scattered showers throughout the day, with clouds bringing heavy rain by evening.

Once again, there will be highs of 7 to 9 degrees in a moderate southerly breeze.

Thursday night is expected to be quite windy and wet, with rain extending to all areas, heavy in the southwest.

Friday

Friday is looking like a windy day with strong southwesterly winds.

Widespread showers will be fed in during the day, with the heaviest and most frequent in the south and west.

It will be mild, however, with highs of 12 to 14 degrees.
