Ireland weather: Weather warning in place for eight counties as Met Eireann say 'rough conditions' will arrive

Three separate status yellow wind warnings are in place for eight counties on Thursday, August 12 with conditions set to brutal.

A status yellow wind warning for Clare, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo has been issued with conditions set to be, 'unseasonably windy on Thursday.'

South to southeast winds veering southwest are expected to reach average speeds of 40 to 50 km/h with gusts of up to 90 km/h. Winds will be strongest along the coast, as well as exposed and higher terrain. Very rough seas are expected too.

That particular warning is valid from 6am until 3pm on Thursday, August 12.

Similar warnings have also been issued for Kerry and Cork, with those two ending at 11am and 1pm respectively.

As for the overall country, here's what's expected over the coming days as conditions remain unsettled...

Thursday morning and afternoon

An unseasonably windy day is expected with strong and gusty southerly winds, reaching gale force on Atlantic coasts.

Very rough seas and conditions across inland lakes are expected too.

Outbreaks of rain will move eastwards across the country during the morning and early afternoon, followed by sunny spells and scattered showers. Highest temperatures of 16 to 19 degrees.

Thursday night

It will stay windy and wet near northern and western coasts with near gale force winds continuing in the far west and northwest.

However, winds will be weaker elsewhere. Scattered showers will continue in the west and north but showers will be isolated over the rest of the country with long clear spells.

Friday morning and afternoon

A blustery start with fresh or strong westerly winds easing as the day develops. There will be a mix of sunny spells and showers. Highest temperatures of 16 to 20 degrees.

Friday night

Another blustery evening with strong southwest winds, especially in the north and northwest coastal areas.

As the night develops, there will be sunny spells and showers, The rain will be more frequent across the west and north with dry spells in the southeast.

Saturday morning and afternoon

The day will start with sunny spells and showers across the northern half of the country.

It's set to be cloudy further south with a spell of persistent rain early in the day.

The rain will clear southeastwards through the afternoon, becoming mostly dry with good spells of sunshine in all areas by evening. Highest temperatures of 16 to 19 degrees.

Saturday night

Mostly dry with clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees.

Sunday

Expect to see a mix of showers and sunny spells. The showers will be most frequent over the country's northern half, with good dry spells further south and east. Highest temperatures of 17 to 20 degrees.

Next week

Met Eireann has said: "A northwesterly flow will feed in some showers mixed with sunny spells for early next week, the showers most frequent in the north and northwest. Temperatures will remain similar to recent values."
