Ireland weather: Warning issued for one county as temperatures plummet and high winds sweep across Ireland

Met Eireann have issued a status yellow weather warning for Donegal as temperatures are set to plummet across Ireland this week.

Snow showers are set to fall on Friday and they'll be accompanied with a period of high winds.

And those winds will cause some problems for those in the northern part of the country.

A Met Eireann spokesperson said: "Northerly winds are expected to reach mean speeds in excess of 50km/h with gusts in excess of 90km/h."

The warning is in place from 15:00 Friday 26/11/2021 to 06:00 Saturday 27/11/2021.

Here's the outlook for the rest of the country from Met Eireann.

Thursday night: "Becoming windy on Thursday night with fresh to strong westerly winds developing as showery rain spreads across the country from the northwest. Lowest temperatures of 1 to 5 degrees occurring early on, turning less cold as the rain spreads."

Friday: "A windy and showery day with fresh to strong northwest winds and gales developing on coasts. Turning colder too with some showers will turning to sleet, with snow possible on higher ground. Afternoon temperatures of just 3 to 7 degrees with an added wind chill factor."

Friday night: "Staying windy on Friday night with strong to near gale force northwesterly winds with strong gales likely along northern and eastern coasts. Scattered showers will continue, most frequent in the north and west where some will fall as sleet. Lowest temperatures of 0 to +4 degrees."

Saturday: "Scattered showers will feed into northern and western coastal areas through the day, with sleet or snow possible on higher ground. Feeling brisk with temperatures of just 4 to 7 degrees and a fresh northerly wind bringing an added wind chill factor."
