Ireland weather: Very cold day for Dublin before 10-hour Met Eireann warning for snow and ice kicks in

We're set for another very cold day in Dublin as we prepare for another snow and ice warning set to kick in on the early hours of Saturday morning.

Temperatures won't go any higher than 5C today, and we can expect the odd snow flurry throughout the day.

But the real wintry weather will begin tonight when the mercury will drop to -1C and from 2am Met Eireann says to prepare for snow and ice across all of Leinster, Connact and Munster.

The 10 hour warning will continue through to mid-day before heavy rain makes its way across Ireland.

Met Eireann says: "Generally cloudy this morning with just the odd snow flurry. Mostly dry this afternoon with a few bright spells expected. Another cold and blustery day with highs of 2 to 5 degrees in fresh and gusty southeast winds.

"Dry early tonight but sleet and snow will spread from the west later with accumulations expected bringing hazardous conditions on roads and pathways with reduced visibility. Minimum temperatures of -1 to +3 degrees in strong southeast winds."

Here's what to expect in the coming days:

Saturday

Sleet and snow for a time on Saturday morning with further accumulations, bringing a risk of some disruption. By afternoon, falls of snow will have transitioned to rain and a thaw will set in. Maximum temperatures of 2 to 6 degrees in strong and gusty southeast winds.

Windy overnight with any lying snow remaining in the north and east continuing to thaw. Scattered outbreaks of rain with heavy falls at times in south Munster. Temperatures continuing to rise overnight, ranging 7 to 11 degrees by dawn on Sunday. Strong to gale force southeast winds.

Sunday

Sunday looks set to be a wet and very windy day with spells of heavy rain and gale force southerly winds. A risk of flooding in the south. Mild despite the inclement weather with highs of 10 to 13 degrees. Rain clearing northeastwards by evening with scattered outbreaks of rain returning for the overnight period. Lowest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees in fresh southerly winds.

Monday

Mild and breezy on Monday with patchy rain clearing during the morning to leave plenty of dry weather and sunny spells. Maximum temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees in moderate southerly breezes. Outbreaks of rain moving in overnight with fresh southerly winds. Minimum temperatures of 7 to 9 degrees.

Tuesday

Rain is expected to clear early on to leave a day of sunny spells and scattered showers. Highest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees.
