Ireland weather tomorrow: Met Eireann's miserable forecast as weather warning begins

With status yellow rainfall warnings in place for 18 of the 32 counties, Ireland's recent spell of bad weather looks set to continue over the coming days.

At present, there's a rainfall warning in place for Connacht, Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Longford, Louth, Westmeath and Meath.

Met Eireann has stated that h eavy rain with a risk of localised flooding can be expected in those counties.

That warning is in place from 6pm on Wednesday until 6am on Thursday, January 28.

Elsewhere, the UK Met Office has issued a status yellow r ainfall warning for Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone, and Derry.

It's valid from 6pm tonight until 9am tomorrow and they state that "heavy rain will bring some flooding and transport disruption."

As for the rest of the country, the next 24 hours are set to be fairly gloomy with cold temperatures and rain on the horizon.

There's set to be widespread rain tonight, heaviest over the northern half of the country, leading to spot flooding in places.

Thankfully, it's set to become drier overnight but the rain will continue in Ulster, where it will be cold with lows of 4 to 7 degrees.

Things are expected to pick up on Thursday morning where it will be dry in most areas with some bright and sunny spells.

Yet again, it will be cloudier in Ulster though as the rain continues to fall but it's set to clear by the early afternoon.

For the rest of the country, the wet conditions will return though as rain develops in the southwest during the afternoon before spreading northeastwards during the evening.

Met Eireann has said that the weather on Thursday will be "unsettled with spells of rain. Generally mild at first, but becoming cold again."

As for Thursday night, the rain will continue in the northeast for a time early but will clear overnight leaving scattered showers and some clear spells.

For those living in the south and west, Thursday night is expected to be breezy with fresh southwesterly winds, but winds will be lighter elsewhere around the country.
