Ireland weather today: Sizzling highs of 25C as country enjoys last of summer sun

Ireland is set to sizzle today with the mercury peaking at 25C as the country enjoys the last of the summer sun.

Although rain fell overnight in the east, Tuesday will be another very warm and humid day.

Met Eireann forecasters revealed temperatures will hit between 20C and 25C today, although it will be cooler in the west and south.

Four counties will see temperatures of 25C or above today as the east of the country enjoys some September sun.

Most areas will however see temperatures hover around 20C temperatures with good spells of sunshine.

Dublin, Carlow, Kildare and Laois are currently forecast to be the warmest spots in the country.

A Met Eireann spokesperson said: "Showers in the east will clear and sunny spells will develop through the morning.

"However it will remain cloudier overall in the west with occasional showers and the risk of an isolated heavier shower by evening extending into the midlands.

"Highest temperatures of 20C to 25C, but remaining cooler in parts of the west and south. Winds will be light southerly or variable in direction."

Tonight may see some more showers with the east seeing the best of the clear spells.

Areas of mist and fog will form in the slack winds with lows of 12C to 16C.

Another warm and mostly dry day is on the cards for Wednesday, with "good sunny spells" forecast.

Met Eireann said: "Highest temperatures will range 20C to 24C generally, but a much cooler day in Ulster and along the east coasts with temperatures at 17C to 19C and feeling fresher as the day progresses in a light to moderate easterly breeze."

Heading into Thursday, it will be slightly cooler, with highs of just 17C to 21C.

Connacht and Munster may see some showers in the afternoon.

The outlook for the coming days is for a dip in temperatures as we head towards the end of the week.

A forecaster revealed: "Temperatures returning closer to normal with a mix of sunny spells and occasional showers with the west and northwest most at risk."
