Ireland weather: Sunshine on the way for some amid temperature jump before big change

Many counties in Ireland are in for a lovely weekend of sunshine and above-average temperatures as Met Eireann’s forecast brings some great news.

As expected for the time of year, this welcome change won’t last long, and forecasters are predicting the arrival of more rainfall coming in off the Atlantic from Wednesday.

Meanwhile, there has been a lot of chat around the arrival of a ‘sudden weather phenomenon,’ which will disrupt the jetstream over Europe and block high-pressure systems, however, that is not due to kick off until the end of the month or into early March.

Irish weather expert, Alan O’Reilly gave an update on what this means for Ireland and said despite reports of the arrival of the ‘beast from the east,’ there is nothing to suggest at this point that Ireland will be majorly affected.

He wrote: “Models still showing SSW event likely but I can’t stress this enough, it does not mean we will see a beast from the East.

“It can have very little impact on our weather, it’s a wait and see. Models do show increased chance of blocked and possibly cooler weather around start of March”.

In the meantime, here’s the great news forecast for Ireland with very little rain, higher temperatures, and plenty of clear skies over the coming days:

Friday

It’ll be cloudy this morning and misty in places with some patches of rain or drizzle. It will become largely dry today with occasional sunny spells developing nationwide. Highest temperatures of 10 to 12 degrees are expected in mostly moderate west to southwest winds.

There will be good dry spells tonight with just patches of light rain or drizzle and a light southwest breeze. Although it’ll be rather cloudy, there will be some clear breaks.

Mist and fog may also develop, most likely in the south and lowest temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees are due - perhaps colder where skies are clearest in parts of the south and southeast.

Saturday

Saturday morning will be rather dull with low cloud and some spots of drizzle. It will brighten up during the day, but there will still be some outbreaks of light rain or drizzle around too.

Highest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees in a light to moderate southerly airflow.

It’ll be another mostly cloudy night with largely dry conditions aside from spots of light rain or drizzle. Some mist and hill fog also. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees with mainly light southerly winds.

Sunday

A cloudy morning with some drizzle in places, becoming mainly dry for the afternoon with cloud lifting and some late sunshine developing.

Afternoon highs of 9 to 11 degrees and southerly winds will be light or moderate in strength.

Mainly dry under broken clouds, although some patchy drizzle is likely. Temperatures will dip between 2 to 5 degrees and winds will be mainly light and southeasterly.

Monday

Dry with a mix of cloud and sunny spells for most, however cloudier conditions with a little drizzle may affect eastern and southern counties.

The highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees are expected with moderate southeast winds.

Tuesday

Tuesday is looking likely to stay dry for many areas with bright spells, although there is some uncertainty and there may be some rain in western and southern counties.

Afternoon highs of 10 to 13 degrees will be felt, although it’ll be a little cooler along the east coast with moderate to fresh southeasterly winds.

Further outlook

“Rain is expected to move in from the Atlantic on Wednesday, with colder conditions following for Wednesday night”.
