Ireland will be graced with some sunny spells this afternoon after the country was saturated with dangerous levels of rainfall.
Met Eireann has forecast "a bright, fresh day with sunny spells and scattered showers" a welcome change from the harsh conditions yesterday.
A status yellow rainfall warning was issued yesterday for Connacht as the west bore the brunt of the fallout from the constant showers.
The tourist town of Clifden was ravaged by flash floods in scenes described as "Armageddon" by locals.
And while the sun will be making a welcome return there is still a good deal of showers forecast for the coming days.
A forecaster said: "The showers will be most frequent in the west and north during the afternoon, but will become isolated during the evening. Highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees, mildest in the southeast.
"There will be moderate to fresh west to southwest breezes, strong at times near coasts in the west and north."
Meanwhile tonight will start off "mostly dry with clear spells and just a few isolated showers."
"A band of more frequent showers will move into the northwest towards morning. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees with moderate southwesterly winds."
"Tomorrow morning will start off dry and sunny in most areas, but scattered showers in the northwest will gradually spread southeastwards through the morning and afternoon.
"Showers will be most frequent across the northern half of the country. Highest temperatures of 14 to 17 degrees with moderate westerly winds.
Looking ahead to the weekend a breezy and showery weather pattern is expected and into the early days of next week.
