Ireland weather: Snow to cover Ireland on Friday as Met Eireann issue wicked weekend update

Ireland had better brace itself for some polar-esque weather this weekend, with hail and snow set to fall across the island on Friday before temperatures plunge to -3C.

That's according to Met Éireann's latest prediction, issued on Friday morning, which is warning people to wrap up well as we get through a bitter few days.

Things aren't really set to improve any time soon, as an unsettled period is being predicted with heavy rain instore for many.

In an update early on Friday morning, the national forecaster had the following to say: "Cold today with frost & fog patches clearing to leave a day of sunshine & showers. Showers will mainly affect N counties during the morning but will extend S across the country during the afternoon & evening

"Some showers will be wintry with hail, sleet & some snow flurries"

To back up those rain and hail showers on Friday night, we'll see a lovely clear sky - resulting in freezing temperatures and frosty conditions.

A Met Éireann forecast reads: "Showers will become confined to northern and northwestern counties overnight with long dry and clear spells developing elsewhere. Another cold night with frost and ice forming in places along with some fog patches. Minimum temperatures -3C to zero degrees"

Saturday looks to be the best of the weekend, with "long sunny spells during the morning but cloud will build in places during the afternoon with a few light showers developing" according to the forecast, which again warns of temperatures only reaching 7C in parts.

Sunday will be "mostly cloudy with scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle. More persistent rain will move in across southwestern counties at times. Top temperatures of 8 to 12 degrees."

That leads in to a "rather windy" Sunday night with outbreaks of rain in the south and west.

And to top it all off, we're getting a "unsettled" spell next week too.

Happy Friday!
