Ireland weather: Outrageous scenes as gigantic tornado-like 'devil wind' rips through Meath garden

Here is the outrageous moment that a gigantic tornado-like 'devil wind' rips through an Irish garden as our changeable summer weather continues to surprise us.

This fantastic footage was caught on camera by a Meath homeowner who happened to be standing in her back yard when the mad weather event kicked off.

The Donore resident said that the gust of wind continued to get more and more rapid before starting to spin strongly in the air bringing anything in its way with it.

In the video obtained by Dublin Live, dust and grass can be seen being flung into the sky in stunning swirls thanks to the gust that is actually a natural weather phenomenon called a 'devil or fairy wind'.

Experts say that the freak forecast "most commonly occurs during dry conditions when warmer surface air rises quickly to form an updraft."

They added: "These vacuums then begin to spiral, approaching diameters of between 10 to 50 feet and soaring at most up to 100 feet into the air."

The homeowner told Dublin Live that she found the live experience "very strange [but] was delighted to capture it all on camera".

"Apparently it's known as dust devil or fairy wind according to a few weather experts I got in touch with.

"It was a bizarre situation which looked like it could cause some mini-destruction but thankfully nothing was damaged.
