Ireland weather: Met Eireann warns 'anticyclone' bringing dramatic change as Atlantic system hits

Met Eireann is warning of anticyclonic weather which will bring a dramatic change as an Atlantic frontal system hits.

Tuesday will see the first effects of that as mist and fog clear by morning leaving a dry start to the day with sunny spells.

Rain will develop with it turning a little milder than usual with temperatures of 9C dropping to -1C overnight.

It will be dry tonight with clear spells but it will become foggy at times leading to impaired visibility so caution is advised while driving.

Met Eireann warn that high pressure will continue to dominate the weather towards the end of the week.

It will gradually turn more unsettled over the weekend as Atlantic frontal systems break through the high pressure and cross the country.

Here's how the next few days are looking according to Met Eireann:

Tomorrow: "Fog will clear tomorrow morning to leave a dry and bright day, with just isolated showers, mainly in the north and east. It will turn cloudier in the afternoon but still with some sunny spells. Highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees in a light southeasterly breeze."

Thursday: "Another bright and mainly dry day on Thursday with sunny spells. However, isolated showers will develop in the east and southeast through the afternoon. Highest temperatures of 10 to 14 degrees in a light to moderate southeast breeze."

Friday: "Dry for most on Friday with sunny spells early in the day. However, cloud will build from the west through the day and this will bring patchy light rain or drizzle to western and southwestern coastal areas on Friday evening. Feeling cooler under that cloud cover with highest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees in a light to moderate southeast to south breeze."
