Ireland weather: Met Eireann warn of miserable few days as heavy rain and 'blustery' conditions to hit

Heavy rain and strong winds will batter Ireland from Tuesday night.

Met Eireann has warned that, despite sunny weather forecast for the next few days, miserable conditions will arrive later in the week.

Things will be particularly bad until the weekend, before it eases a little next Saturday.

A forecaster said: "Chilly this morning, with any lingering mist and frost clearing quickly to give a bright morning with good spells of sunshine.

"Cloud will steadily increase from the west through the day, reaching the eastern half of the country by evening, with patchy rain developing in western coastal counties later.

"Highest temperatures of 12C to 17C, warmest in the southwest, in light southwesterly breezes, freshening on Atlantic coasts later.

"Cloudy and misty tonight, with rain and drizzle turning persistent in western coastal counties, but becoming more scattered as the rain moves further inland overnight.

"Coldest in the eastern half of the country with lows of 6C to 10C, 10C to 13C elsewhere. Light to moderate southerly breezes will be fresh to strong on Atlantic coasts.

"Monday will begin damp in many areas as rain and drizzle continues to clear eastwards during the morning, though still lingering on eastern coastal counties into the early afternoon.

"Sunny spells and well scattered showers will follow. Highest temperatures of 14C to 18C in moderate southerly breezes, veering westerly as the rain clears and easing through the day.

"Mostly dry on Monday night with long clear spells and isolated showers, mainly in the west. Lowest temperatures of 4C to 8C, coolest in the eastern half of the country, in light westerly breezes, backing southerly overnight. Mist and fog patches are likely to form towards dawn."

Sadly, things will begin to take a turn on Tuesday evening.

"Generally dry for Tuesday with sunny spells and well scattered showers, most frequent in the north and west," the forecaster said.

"Highest temperatures of 12C to 15C in light to moderate southerly breezes. However, cloud will increase in the west later in the day as it pushes in from the Atlantic ahead of rain moving in late evening with freshening winds on western coasts.

"A wet and windy night as persistent rain in Atlantic coastal counties will move eastwards, heavy at times especially over the southern half of the country. Lowest temperatures of 8C to 13C, coolest in Ulster and Leinster, in a fresh southerly wind, strong on Atlantic coasts.

"A wet and blustery start to the day on Wednesday as rain continues to move eastwards clearing into the Irish Sea but further heavy and frequent showers or longer spells of rain will continue to feed across the country from the Atlantic.

"Highest temperatures of 11C to 15C in moderate to fresh southerly winds, strong on coasts, veering westerly during the morning and moderating towards evening."
