Ireland weather: Met Eireann updates forecast amid fresh Orange warning as vicious winds blast country

Parts of Ireland will be lashed by winds of up to 110km/h this weekend.

Three counties have been issued a fresh status orange wind warning by Ireland's national forecaster.

And Met Eireann has put a yellow warning in place for a slew of other areas, as ferocious gusts buffet the country on a weekend that's proving grim weather-wise.

A trio of westerly counties – Donegal, Galway and Mayo –are set to feel the brunt of the high winds, with speeds of more than 110km/h possible in the west.

The vicious gusts will bring the risk of coastal flooding in the west of the country, where the winds are onshore.

The warning is in place from 11am until 3pm on Sunday – so if you're living in an affected county, remember to batten down the hatches tonight.

Meanwhile, Dublin, Louth, Wexford, Wicklow, Meath, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick and Waterford have all been issued a status yellow wind warning, which will see affected counties face adverse conditions for most of tomorrow.

The 15-county warning has been issued – between 5am and 5pm tomorrow – amid fears of wind speeds of between 90 and 110km/h.

And that's not the end of the warnings in place for tomorrow: Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Offaly, Westmeath, Cavan, Monaghan, Roscommon and Tipperary have all been dished out a separate yellow wind warning.

Few will escape unscathed – and Met Eireann says winds in these counties will reach 80km/h at their peak.

It's in place from 6am until 4pm on Sunday.

In Northern Ireland, yet another advisory has been issued – this time by the UK Met Office.

Antrim and Down will face strong winds that could lead to some travel disruption, according to a yellow warning that's in place from 4am until midnight on Sunday.

Take care.
