Ireland weather: Met Eireann update on what time Storm Aiden expected to ease as front hammers country

Met Eireann expects Storm Aiden to ease for most of the country later this afternoon with dry and calmer conditions by 6pm.

The storm has been hammering the country all night and morning with two separate orange warnings in effect.

The first status orange warning ended at 10am with now just Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Sligo and Clare remaining in a status orange alert until 4pm.

The rest of the country will remain in a status yellow wind warning until 4pm as well when the weather is expected to abate.

Everything to know about Storm Aiden

The Northern part of the country will see the poor weather right into the evening but most places will have some respite by dark.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Rain in northern and eastern areas is clearing this morning as sunshine and scattered heavy squally showers follow, with the risk of hail and isolated thunderstorms, heaviest across the north and northwest.

"Becoming mostly dry later this afternoon with winds moderating then too, except for northern areas. After a mild start, highest afternoon temperatures will range a fresher 9 to 13 degrees."
