Ireland weather: Met Eireann forecast more bad weather but with 'noticeable' change from today

After surviving Storm Barra, Ireland is set to face a miserable weekend of weather, with rain and hail showers lashing down across the island.

Met Eireann say that the long spells of precipitation will be mixed in with "noticeably milder" temperatures - with some days even seeing them hit the low teens.

There's bad news for those of you in the west and north of the country, as the showers will hit there first as Friday goes on, before spreading nationwide as we move in to Saturday.

Things don't seem to be improving much as we look towards Sunday and into the early half of next week either.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Today will be a cold, bright, fresh day with sunny spells and scattered showers of rain or hail. The showers will be most frequent over the western half of the country and Ulster. They will become confined mainly to Ulster this evening. Highest temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees.

"Saturday will be cloudy with outbreaks of rain, which will be heavy at times over the northern half of the country. Drier, clearer weather will follow from the northwest through the evening. It will be noticeably milder with highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees.

"On Sunday morning rain and drizzle will spread northwards. The rest of the day will be mostly cloudy and breezy with patchy outbreaks of rain in most areas, heaviest west. It will be mild with afternoon temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees and fresh, gusty southerly winds, strong along the west coast. Through the evening, rain will clear eastwards and Sunday night it will become mainly dry and cold with lowest temperatures of 1 to 5 degrees."

The forecast for next week doesn't appear to be very good at the moment either, with the temperatures "turning cooler" as rain spells continue to batter the country.

We suggest bringing 'the big jacket' to any outdoor event.
