Despite a relatively calm few days Ireland is in for some horrible weather this week with parts of the country to be hit with storm like conditions in the coming.

Met Eireann has issued a status yellow wind warning for Galway, Clare, Limerick, Kerry, Cork, Waterford, Wexford set to take effect at midday on Wednesday with gusts of 100km expected in the south west.

The warning for the seven counties will remain in place until 6am on Thursday morning.

Forecasters said: "Wednesday afternoon through Wednesday night, southwest to west winds will reach mean wind speeds of 50 to 65 km/h, with gusts ranging 80 to 110km/h, higher in exposed locations."

Despite being graced with some sunshine over the past few days heavy rain is set to hit from today onwards particularly in the west.

"Very windy on Wednesday night, mainly across Munster and parts of Connacht and Leinster. Widespread showers and longer spells of rain with some heavy falls.
