Ireland weather: Met Eireann's latest forecast as tropical storm track becomes clear

A tropical storm dubbed Storm Wanda is on the way and Irish people can expect wind, rain and cold weather as conditions become unsettled over the next few days.

Storm Wanda is making its way to Ireland from the Atlantic and while it is predicted to weaken as it approaches, it is looking like the storm could affect the West of the country.

The subtropical storm formed over the central Atlantic last week and has been circling towards us ever since.

While Wanda may bring wind and rain to the western half of Ireland, Irish people shouldn’t worry too much. Carlow Weather has been following the storm as it makes its way to Ireland and has issued an update saying that the storm will not batter the country.

“Tropical Storm #Wanda has Ireland at the end of the track cone. However, by the time Wanda makes it to us it will be a bit of a damp squib with a risk of some rain and a little wind,” they posted to Twitter.

The subtropical storm system is “causing sole uncertainty on weather models for next week though.”

A Met Eireann forecaster has said that the “remains of Wanda might track close to Ireland early next week but it will have weakened and not likely cause many issues.”

Meanwhile, the weather this weekend looks showery and cold with moderate breezes.

Saturday will bring rain, moving from the northwest to the southeast becoming lighter as it does so. Drier clearer conditions and a few showers will follow from the northwest through the late afternoon and evening. Saturday night will be mainly dry but breezy with temperatures dropping as low as 4 degrees.

Sunday will be mainly dry with a fair amount of cloud and some sunny intervals, the best of these in the south. There will be a few showers in the north and highest temperatures of 10 to 12 degrees.

Monday will be mild and mostly cloudy with some patchy light rain or drizzle. On Monday night, rain will develop in the west and spread eastwards across the country, clearing early on Tuesday.
