Ireland weather: Met Eireann pinpoints areas to be hit by rain as scorching weather comes to an end

Ireland's run with sunny spells is set to come to and end today as the rain showers make a return.

The country saw temperatures reach as high as 25C over the last couple of day.

However a major change is set to arrive from today with lots of cloud and rain set to hit.

It looks as though parts of the north and west are most likely to be affected by the rain showers starting from today.

However the good news is temperatures will remain high throughout the week despite the unsettled weather.

But experts are warning that the weekend is looking more uncertain.

A forecaster said: "Dry with hazy sunny spells in eastern and southern areas to begin. Mostly cloudy in the west and northwest, however, with patchy rain and drizzle developing here this morning.

"Becoming cloudier and breezier generally through the afternoon and evening as the rain and drizzle slowly extends over the western half of the country, but the east and southeast will remain dry. Highs of 15 to 22 degrees, warmest in the east, in moderate to fresh southerly winds.

"Rain turning light and patchy will gradually extend eastwards to all areas early tonight. Clear spells and scattered showers will follow into the west later. Lows of 9 to 13 degrees, in moderate southwesterly winds, fresh along west and northwest coasts.

"Cloudy in the east and southeast on Wednesday with patchy light rain and drizzle at times. Clearer weather with sunny spells and scattered showers in the western half of the country, will extend to all areas later. It will be a fresher day overall, with highs of 15 to 17 degrees, in light to moderate southwesterly winds.

"Becoming mostly dry overnight on Wednesday with good clear spells developing and just a few light showers in western parts. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 9 degrees, in a light southwesterly breeze.

"A mostly sunny start on Thursday, with scattered showers quickly developing in the west. It will stay largely dry further east, however cloud will increase during the afternoon. Highs, similar to Wednesday, of 15 to 18 degrees, in a mostly light west to northwest breeze.

"Generally dry on Friday with a mix of cloud and sunny spells. Highs of only 14 to 17 degrees, but it will feel pleasant in sunnier spells as winds will be light.
