Ireland weather: Met Eireann pinpoint when warm spell will end as miserable conditions on the way

It looks like the back to school weather will be short-lived, with just a few days left to enjoy the current sunny weather.

Met Eireann is forecasting a big change at the end of the week to the warm spells and dry conditions Ireland has enjoyed in recent days.

The national forecaster has pinpointed when the weather will take a turn, bringing with it a much more unsettled outlook.

From Tuesday until Thursday, it will stay predominantly dry with temperatures in the high teens or low 20s.

But from Friday and into the weekend, rain is back on the agenda with longer spells of showers expected from Sunday.

Tuesday will be dry and cloudy in the morning with just the chance of a little drizzle at times.

Brighter conditions with some hazy sunny spells will develop through the day, the best of which will be across Connacht and Ulster, with highest temperatures of 15 to 19C.

Tuesday night will be dry for the most part, with a mix of cloud and clear spells and just a slight chance of some spotty drizzle, mostly in the east. Lowest temperatures will be between 7 and 11C.

Met Eireann says the outlook from then onwards is that it will continue "predominantly dry throughout much of the week with light winds and temperatures around average for the time of year, in the high teens or low 20s".

There will be a mostly cloudy to start on Wednesday with isolated patches of drizzle. Cloud cover will become more variable during the afternoon with some sunny spells developing, with highest temperatures of 15 to 19C.

Wednesday night will be largely clear and dry, with some mist or fog patches developing as winds fall light, becoming calm in parts. Lowest temperatures will be between 8 and 12C.

A forecaster added: "Thursday will be generally dry again, with just isolated drizzle patches. There will be variable cloud cover, with some sunny spells at times.

"Highest temperatures of 16 to 20C, coolest along the Irish Sea coast with light easterly winds.

"Thursday night: Continuing dry with clear weather to start, however pockets of fog will develop towards dawn in near calm conditions. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 11C.

"Friday will be mostly cloudy, and staying dry in many places but well scattered light showers will likely occur. Highest temperatures of 17 to 19C with light southeast winds."

As for the weekend outlook, Met Eireann added that Saturday "will likely bring further showers, more numerous than Friday's, but there will be dry spells also".

Temperatures will be similar to Friday with winds remaining light to moderate. There are signs that the weather will become less settled later in the weekend, with a longer spell of rain likely during Sunday, the forecaster said.
