Ireland weather: Met Eireann pinpoint when rain will return after strange weekend prediction

Ireland will bask in some glorious dry weather with sunny spells and clear nights as we head into Christmas week - with Met Eireann's latest forecast showing very little chance of rain less than ten days out from the big day.

The weather has been fairly solid all week after coming off a few days of fog and that's set to continue over the weekend, as the worst bit of news is that two areas might see a bit of drizzle on Sunday. Other than that, any last minutes shoppers might need a light coat but not a whole lot else.

If you're based near the coast or on higher ground, you'll probably see some mist develop later on Friday, but those of you in the southern half of the island will also see temperatures hit double digits (in December!) on Saturday.

The boffins at Met Eireann have said: "Friday will be dry and mostly cloudy with occasional periods of sunshine. Highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees in light to moderate southeast breezes, fresh at times on the southwest coast. Remaining dry during Friday night and cloudy with a few clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees.

Saturday

"Saturday will be cloudy and dry overall with a few brighter breaks. It may be foggy very locally for some during the morning time. There will be patches of mist or drizzle, mainly on southern coasts or over hills.

"Highest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees generally, reaching 10 degrees in southern coastal areas."

Sunday

"Any lingering overnight fog will be slow to clear on Sunday. It will be cloudy with dry weather for most areas, but there may be some drizzle in southern and eastern coastal areas. Highest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees. Easterly breezes will be mainly light. Remaining mainly dry and cloudy on Sunday night with spots of drizzle possible. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 6 degrees, coldest in the north."

For those of you keeping an eye out for the potential of a 'White Christmas' then there may be good news too, as the latest long-range forecast shows a small bit of snow heading our way on Christmas Eve!
