Ireland weather: Met Eireann pinpoint one stunning day as 'dominant' weather system hits

Met Eireann have shared a stunning weekend forecast as a "dominant" high pressure system is set to hit Ireland.

Conditions look set to stay dry, sunny and hot in the coming days as crowds are likely to flock to beaches around the country on Saturday and Sunday.

Meanwhile today will also be very warm with highs of 18C but some strong winds, particularly in the south.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Today will be dry and bright with spells of hazy sunshine. Another mild and pleasant day with highest temperatures of 12 to 18 degrees Celsius. It will be mildest once again in the west, with slightly cooler temperatures along eastern and southern coasts owing to onshore breezes. East to southeast breezes with mostly moderate in strength, stronger at times along the Munster coast.

"Dry tonight with long clear spells and light easterly breezes. Chilly with lowest temperatures of 0 to 5 degrees Celsius, coolest inland with perhaps a touch of frost in places."

And the high pressure system that is currently over the country is set to stay for the weekend and Monday, with further "dry, bright and settled conditions" expected.

Saturday in particular looks set to be a stunning day, with highs of 20C and plenty of sunshine, and the warmest conditions are expected in the west of the country.

A forecaster added: "Saturday will be a pleasant and sunny day, in light to moderate easterly breezes. Highest temperatures will range 13 to 19 or 20 degrees Celsius. It will be warmest in the west, and coolest along southern and eastern coasts owing to onshore breezes.

"Dry and mostly clear on Saturday night in just light easterly breezes. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 6 degrees Celsius, coolest across Ulster.

"Another dry and mostly sunny day on Sunday. Highest temperatures of 11 to 18 degrees Celsius, in moderate easterly breezes. It will be mildest once again in the west and coolest along eastern and southern coastal counties with onshore breezes moving inland here.

"Good sunny spells on Monday, however cloud will build in places. A mild day countrywide with highest temperatures of 13 to 18 degrees Celsius, mildest inland in near calm.

"A cloudier day on Tuesday with light outbreaks of rain and moderate northerly breezes. A cooler day countrywide with highest temperatures of 11 to 14 Celsius, mildest in the south of Munster.

"And current indications suggest it will become largely dry again with a mix of cloud and sunshine and light easterly breezes. Coolest in the east and mildest in the west."
