Ireland weather: Met Eireann pinpoint day big change arrives as very unusual conditions set to hit

Met Eireann have pinpointed Wednesday as the day we can expect a big change to our weather with sunshine and highs of up to 16C.

It is set to turn bright and dry for the remainder of the week as a high pressure system moves in.

And some very unusual conditions are expected in the coming days as "very little rainfall" will hit the country up to the end of April.

Expert Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather said: "Some nice sunny spells from Wednesday but a strong breeze which will make for great drying, so get the washing lined up.

"It’s a long way off so very much subject to change but the two main weather models, GFS and ECMWF, are both showing a cold end to the month. They also show very little rainfall up to the end of the month."

Meanwhile today will be overcast with some light rain and drizzle at times.

A Met EIreann forecaster said: "This morning will be mostly cloudy with patchy light rain, drizzle and mist. Drier, brighter weather will develop in the northwest and will extend over Ulster and Connacht this afternoon and evening. Leinster and Munster will continue mostly cloudy with lingering patches of rain or drizzle. Highest temperatures of 9 to 13 degrees with light to moderate northeast breezes.

"Tonight, patchy drizzle and mist will affect parts of Leinster and Munster, but will die out overnight. Clear spells elsewhere and some patches of mist or fog. Lowest temperatures of 0 to 3 degrees over the northern half of the country and from 4 to 7 degrees further south."

And a big change is expected from Tuesday night onwards as the high pressure system becomes "dominant".

A forecaster added: "High pressure becoming dominant through Tuesday night and Wednesday, bringing settled conditions for midweek and beyond. There will be a good deal of dry and bright weather out to the weekend.

"A largely dry and bright day on Wednesday with widespread sunny spells. Highest temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees, coolest along the east coast in a light to moderate easterly breeze.

"Continuing dry and largely clear on Wednesday night. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 5 degrees generally, but colder over Ulster and Connacht where there will be a touch of grass frost with lowest temperatures of 0 to 3 degrees. Light easterly breezes.

"Another generally dry and bright day with sunny spells. There is the chance of an isolated shower in the afternoon. Highest temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees, coolest in the east and south in a light to moderate southeasterly breeze.

"Staying dry with long clear spells overnight. Lowest temperatures of 0 to 4 degrees generally, again coldest over Ulster bringing a touch of grass frost. Less cold in the south with lowest temperatures of 5 to 7 degrees.

"Another dry and sunny day in store for Friday. Highest temperatures of 11 to 16 degrees, mildest over the midlands and Connacht and coolest along the east and south coasts in moderate to fresh southeasterly winds.

"Current indications suggest that the dry and sunny conditions will continue into the weekend as high pressure maintains its dominance over our weather."
