Ireland weather forecast: Met Eireann pinpoints areas that will be hit by storms as thunder warning remains in place

After a fortnight of a heatwave which saw temperatures come close to 30C, Ireland's weather finally calmed down a bit on Monday.

On the date where indoor dining finally returned, many will have been grateful for a seat inside as parts of the country faced heavy rain showers, with some places even experiencing hail.

And there's bad news for anyone who wants to try dine outside on Tuesday, as the rain is set to stick around.

On top of all that, there's still a weather advisory in place for thunderstorms across the country.

Here's the latest forecast from the boffins at Met Eireann.

Thunder advisory

"A cold front crossing the country on Monday afternoon will bring widespread heavy and possibly thundery showers. Downpours will result in hazardous driving conditions and may lead to spot flooding. Areas especially at risk are Leinster and east Munster Monday evening and night. Heavy showers and thunderstorms will become widespread again during Wednesday."

Tuesday

"Rather cloudy this morning with scattered showers and some patches of mist or drizzle. Remaining mostly cloudy across Ulster and north Leinster this afternoon with further showers. It will turn brighter elsewhere with sunny spells and just well-scattered showers. Highest temperatures of 16 to 20 degrees in light to moderate northwest winds."

Tuesday night

"A fresh night tonight with scattered showers, merging to longer spells of rain in Atlantic coastal counties with a risk of thunder. Minimum temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees in moderate west or southwest winds."
