Ireland weather: Met Eireann issues weather warning for Co Kerry as torrential rain set to hit

Met Eireann has issued a weather warning for Co Kerry with torrential rain set to arrive.

The status yellow rain alert will begin at 7am on Wednesday morning and last for 24 hours.

A forecaster said: "From Wednesday morning until Thursday morning, heavy rainfall will bring 35 to 50 mm of rain with higher amounts possible in mountainous areas. Spot flooding, poor visibility and hazardous driving conditions are expected."

At the moment no other county has been issued with a warning although that could yet change.

The entire country is expected to be hit with plenty of rainfall on Wednesday with the south-west getting the worst of it.

The forecaster added: "Wednesday will start off mainly dry with some sunny spells in the northeast.

"Rain developing in the southwest early in the morning will gradually extend northeastwards, reaching Ulster towards evening and northern counties by nightfall.

"The rain will be heaviest in the southwest with spot flooding possible. Highest temperatures of only 14 to 17 degrees with moderate to fresh south to southeast winds."
