Ireland weather: Met Eireann issues brutal update as three warnings come into force

Three separate warnings are in place as Ireland gets set to be hit by 110km/h winds on Sunday.

Met Eireann has said that there is a substantial risk of flooding in parts as a result of the stormy conditions, which saw an Orange alert issued for Donegal, Galway and Mayo.

The rest of the country is under a Yellow caution, with the worst of the gales expected between 12pm and 5pm.

And the start of next week doesn't look much better, with strong winds and heavy rain set to continue in the coming days.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Mild but very windy today with strong to gale force and gusty southerly winds, and severe gusts for a time in western and northwestern coastal areas.

"Rain will be heavy at times through the morning, especially in southern counties, but drier and brighter conditions will extend from the west by afternoon with sunny spells developing.

"Winds will moderate later in the day. Highs of 11 or 12 degrees.

"Mostly dry early tonight with clear spells, however a band of patchy rain will move into the southwest and push northeastwards overnight. Lows of 5 to 8 degrees in fresh southerly winds, strong on coasts.

"Scattered outbreaks of rain in the north and east will clear through the morning to leave a mostly dry and mostly cloudy day, with a few showers and some bright spells.

"A mild day with highs of 11 to 13 degrees. Southerly winds will strengthen on Monday evening with rain moving into the southwest after dark.

"A wet and windy night, with rain moving in from the southwest and quickly sweeping across the country to all areas. A clearance to blustery showers will follow later in the night. Lows of 5 to 7 degrees."
