Ireland weather: Met Eireann issue weather advisory ahead of 'unseasonably windy' conditions

Met Eireann have issued a weather advisory for the entire country ahead of "unseasonably windy" conditions.

The 23-hour alert will be in place from 9pm on Saturday until 8pm on Sunday.

It has been put in place ahead of "unseasonably windy weather on Saturday night and Sunday, with strong and gusty westerly winds at times."

A forecaster said: "Tonight will be windy, with rain clearing from the west. Scattered showers will follow, most of them in Ulster, Connacht and west Munster.

"Fresh to strong and gusty southwesterly winds, veering westerly. Minimum temperatures of 9C to 12C."

And a Status Yellow Gale marine warning has also been issued.

Met Eireann said: "Southwest winds, veering westerly, will occasionally reach gale force 8 later today on Irish Coastal Waters from Carnsore Point to Valentia to Slyne Head, extending to the Irish Sea tonight.

"Westerly winds will occasionally reach gale force 8 tomorrow, Sunday, on Irish coastal waters from Carnsore Point to Slyne Head to Malin Head and on the Irish Sea."

Meanwhile, in Northern Ireland, the UK Met Office have issued a Status Yellow wind alert for Antrim and Derry.

A forecaster said: "Strong winds may lead to some disruption on Sunday."

This alert will be in place from midnight tonight until 4pm on Sunday.
