Ireland weather: Met Eireann issue immediate thunderstorm warning for 15 counties

Met Eireann have issued a thunderstorm warning for 15 counties today with horrid weather set to strike.

Weather chiefs have put the status yellow warning on Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal.

The warning came in to place at 11am this morning and will last until 8am on Tuesday morning.

The forecasters said: "Scattered thunderstorms today and tonight, with lightning, hail and a risk of localised flooding."

Temperatures will remain high across the country however and some areas will experience clear sunny spells.

A Met Eireann forecaster added: "Scattered thunderstorms or longer spells of rain will spread from the south over Leinster, and later this afternoon and evening extending to Ulster, with showers or isolated thunderstorms possible elsewhere.

"Highest temperatures of 18 to 22 degrees, in light northeasterly or variable breezes.

"Showers continuing for a time along northern and northeastern coasts but generally it will be a dry, mild and humid night with some patchy mist developing. Lowest temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees in light northerly or variable winds."
