Ireland weather: Met Eireann give glimmer of summer hope as heatwave melts Europe

Ireland could be about to hot up from the middle of next week after the wet and dreary month of July.

Met Eireann are forecasting a more easterly influence on our weather from midweek as the hot air from Europe moves up.

Many parts of mainland Europe like Spain are currently being roasted by temperatures into the low 40s.

Even our neighbours in the UK recorded their hottest day of the year on Friday with temperatures passing 38C.

And while it has been humid and pleasant at times across Ireland, this weekend will see a lot of showers, some thundery.

But weather chiefs are giving a glimmer of hope for summer conditions to make a return.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Current indications suggest drier and warmer weather from midweek on, as high pressure extends its influence from the east."

The next few days are going to be mild with sunny spells at times but the mercury won't reach into the 20s.

However Tuesday onwards will see a sharp rise in temperatures - but rain will still be a factor until Thursday at least.

The forecaster added: "Tuesday will be a cloudy and wet day, with rain in western areas early in the morning spreading countrywide through the morning and afternoon.

"Some heavy bursts will occur at times with spot flooding possible. Moderate to fresh and gusty southerly winds will be strong along coasts. Highest temperatures of 16 to 21 degrees.

"There'll be further rain for a time on Tuesday night, clearing the south and west by morning. Lowest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees with mostly moderate southwesterly winds that will be strong at times along south and southeast coasts.

"Rain will linger for a time on Wednesday, especially in the east and north, clearer weather with scattered showers will follow to give a bright day with a mix of sunshine and showers, these mainly in the north and northwest of the country. Highest temperatures of 20 to 22 degrees with fresh southerly winds."
