Ireland weather: Met Eireann give glimmer of hope as they pinpoint day summer heat could return

Ireland's miserable and wet start to July could change later next week as temperatures are forecast to pick up.

Met Eireann are forecasting a changeable weekend but they expect the weather to change from next Wednesday.

Weather chiefs are not predicting a major swing but do expect a slight rise in the temperature.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Tuesday currently looks dry and sunny with light westerly winds and temperatures around normal for the time of year.

"Current indications suggest a slight improvement for the midweek weather with a small rise in temperatures as winds become southerly in direction."

As for the here and now, it will be a mist Friday with plenty of rain around the country.

Rain will be heavy at times and temperatures will peak at 19C in central areas.

Saturday will be a much improved day for the south of the country but the northern half of the country will experience heavy rain.

Sunday and Monday will see no great improvement with heavy rain at times and average temperatures.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Sunday there'll be outbreaks of rain in the west and northwest, with the south and southeast faring better with perhaps some sunny spells developing.

"Temperatures on the low side in the west and northwest at around 13 degrees and up to 17 degrees in the southeast. Strong westerly winds will steadily ease through the day.

"Monday there'll be showers in the northwest but elsewhere will become drier with some sunshine breaking through later. Temperatures will recover to near normal for the time of year with light to moderate west to northwest winds."
