Ireland weather: Met Eireann forecast urgent warning as stunning change set to hit

Met Eireann have issued an urgent fog warning for all 26 counties - but a stunning change is on the way as sun and a period of settled weather arrives.

The alert is in place for all of Ireland until 10am on Sunday morning.

It reads: "Fog patches will be dense in places giving poor visibilities."

However there is some better news for the rest of Sunday and the week ahead, as our weather becomes far more dry and settled, with only a few "isolated showers" in northern areas.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Mist and fog patches, dense in places, will linger in some areas for a time this morning, but they will gradually clear to give a largely dry day with a mix of cloud and sunny spells. However, isolated light showers will affect parts of the north and northwest. Highest temperatures of 13 to 15 degrees in light to moderate northwest breezes.

"Tonight will be mainly dry with clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees with very little wind. Mist and fog will form again, becoming quite dense in some places.

"Tomorrow, Monday will be a mostly dry day. Most areas will have some bright or sunny spells after any morning mist and fog clears. However, it will be cloudier over Ulster with a few spots of drizzle. Highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees in a light to moderate west to northwest breeze."

And as the week goes on there will be plenty more dry and bright conditions as a high pressure system moves across the country.

A forecaster said: "Patchy light rain and drizzle will affect Ulster on Monday night but it will be dry further south with clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 9 degrees, coolest in the south. Mist and fog will once again develop in light west to northwesterly or variable breezes.

"Most areas will stay dry on Tuesday with sunny spells but there will be more cloud over the north and northeast bringing a few well scattered light showers. Highest temperatures of 13 to 15 degrees in a light northwesterly or variable breeze.

"Dry on Tuesday night, apart from a little drizzle in the far north. Some mist and fog patches forming which will be dense in places. Lows of 4 to 9 degrees.

"Wednesday will see early mist and fog clearing to give a mix of cloud and some bright or sunny spells. Dry for much of the country with just passing showers along northern and northwestern coasts. Highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees in light west to southwest breezes.

"Much of Thursday looks like it will be dry too, apart from a few scattered light showers. On Thursday night some patchy rain is likely, mostly affecting northern areas. This should die out on Friday with some brighter spells developing after a dull start.

"Current indications suggest that there will be light rain at times over the coming weekend with dry periods too."
