Ireland weather: Met Eireann forecast unusual week and update on chance of 'extreme' conditions

Ireland's weather is set to stay unseasonably mild for the next week or so as high pressure continues to dominate.

High winds that triggered a status yellow warning in Mayo and Galway will die out on Friday afternoon before much more settled weather at the weekend.

And it's set to be quite dry too with unusually settled conditions for the time of year.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "A windy start this morning with blustery showers or longer spells of rain. Mostly cloudy and misty too with just some bright spells developing.

"Southwesterly winds, veering westerly will be fresh to strong and gusty, strongest in the north and northwest, but will gradually ease from the west as drier periods develop; extending eastwards through the afternoon and evening with some sunny spells developing. Highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees.

"Mainly dry with a good deal of cloud to start on Saturday though there will be some bright spells. Patchy light rain and drizzle will push in from the west during the day with thickening cloud.

"Staying mostly dry over the eastern half of the country with the best of the sunny spells. Highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees with light westerly breezes backing southerly through the morning and afternoon, increasing moderate along Atlantic counties.

"Mild for the time of year with a good deal of dry weather into early next week. Turning more unsettled from midweek."

And looking at the long range forecast, there is no suggestion of any freezing cold weather nor is there much risk of "extreme weather" at the start of December.

Speaking about early next month, the forecaster adds: "The main hazard for the period is again the potential of frost and ice, with the chance of extreme weather remaining low otherwise."
