Met Eireann have forecast unusually damp and wet conditions for June this week as a more mixed spell of weather arrives.
Conditions will worsen after a glorious few days, particularly in the east, however we may not have to wait long for things to pick up again.
Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather explained that the latest forecast models now have a far more positive outlook for next weekend.
He said on Sunday: "The last two runs from ECMWF ensembles here on last two images, yesterday evening and this morning. Look at the red lines for Friday and Saturday on both, that is some change in forecast over 12 hours! FYI the latest one is far far better."
Meanwhile today and tomorrow will see a mix of both sunshine and showers in most areas, with the hottest conditions in Leinster and Munster with highs of 19C expected.
A Met Eireann forecaster said; "A dry start to the morning with good sunny spells developing as the odd patch of overnight showery rain dies out. Staying mostly dry through the day though a few stray light showers may affect northern and northwestern coastal areas. Warmest over Leinster and Munster with highest temperatures of 16 to 19 degrees. Cooler over Connacht and Ulster with highest temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees in mostly moderate north to northeast winds, fresh to strong on exposed coasts.
"Tonight will be dry but cold under mostly clear skies. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 6 degrees generally in a light northerly breeze with some mist patches developing.
"Tuesday will begin dry with good sunshine. However, cloud will push in from the northwest through the morning with rain and drizzle following in the afternoon, extending over Connacht and Ulster through the evening. Highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees generally, but cooler in the northwest, in light to moderate northwest breezes.
"A damp night as outbreaks of rain and drizzle continue to extend southeastwards to all areas. Mist and fog patches will develop too. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees in mainly light west to southwest breezes."
And experts said the rest of the week is shaping up to be more mixed initially, with outbreaks of rain and drizzle, before conditions "become more settled towards the weekend".

A forecaster added: "A rather dull and cloudy start to the day on Wednesday, with outbreaks of rain and drizzle. A clearance to drier conditions will develop from the northwest through the day with some afternoon and evening sunny spells for the western half of the country. Staying cloudier further east with some patchy drizzle continuing. Highest temperatures of 17 to 19 degrees generally with light to moderate west to northwest breezes.
"A mainly cloudy day on Thursday with outbreaks of rain and drizzle slowly sinking further south, becoming patchier as it does so. A clearance to showers will develop in the northwest during the afternoon. Highest temperatures ranging from 15 or 16 degrees in the northwest to 19 or 20 degrees in the south in moderate, occasionally fresh, westerly breezes.
"Staying mostly cloudy overnight on Thursday but becoming largely dry with some patchy drizzle lingering in places. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 10 degrees mostly moderate northwest breezes.
"A cool and cloudy day on Friday but dry for most with just a few well scattered light showers. Highest temperatures of just 13 to 16 degrees generally in a moderate to fresh northerly wind.
"Current indications suggest that there will be a good deal of dry weather over the weekend with sunny spells but still with some rain and showers at times. Highest temperatures generally in the high teens."
