Ireland weather: Met Eireann forecast temperatures will soar to highs of 24C but showers to hit Dublin and Ulster during the day

After a glorious weekend of sunshine temperatures will continue to climb across the country but weather chiefs have warned the warm spells may not last into the end of next week.

The mercury will soar to highs of 24C on Monday with most of the country staying dry, but Met Eireann has warned that heavy showers and thunderstorms will hit parts of Leinster and Ulster throughout the day.

The east and north of the country will be covered with showers most frequent in coastal counties along the east coast, with intense thundery downpours likely along with hail.

A forecaster said some showers may continue for a time along eastern and northeastern coasts on Monday but generally it will be a dry, mild and humid night with some patchy mist developing.

Thankfully things are looking better for tomorrow with weather boffins predicting a mostly cloudy to start the morning but good sunny spells set to develop in the south before spreading north.

A forecaster added: “Remaining mostly cloudy over Ulster with some showers there during the day with a risk of some heavy bursts.

"Continuing warm with highest temperatures of 19 to 24 degrees but slightly cooler on some coasts in light northwesterly or variable breezes.

“Any remaining showers will clear leaving a dry night with good clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees in light variable breezes.”

Highest temperatures of 18 to 23 degrees are expected and it will be mild overnight with temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees.

Weather bosses have said there is a good deal of uncertainty for but current indications suggest that after a mainly dry start to the day.
