Ireland weather: Met Eireann forecast sudden turn as awful conditions move in

Having enjoyed a relatively decent spell of weather since outdoor hospitality returned, this weekend's weather is set to pose a big problem for those that plan on being outdoors.

That's because the rain is expected to return over the coming days along "with a high risk of thunderstorms" too as the weather turns unsettled over the next few days.

In terms of the warmest days, Friday (22 degrees), Saturday and Sunday (both 20 degrees) are expected to have the sunniest conditions.

On this note, here's how the next few days are shaping up...

Friday morning and afternoon

Mist and fog patches will clear to be replaced by a mix of cloud and some spells of sunshine.

A few scattered showers will develop and during the afternoon, the rain will spread into the southwest. Highest temperatures of 16 to 22 degrees are expected.

Renowned weather expert Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather has said there will be a few showers today ahead of a very showery weekend with a high risk of thunderstorms and then a low system moving into the South on Monday. He also said there are a few unsettled days ahead.

Friday night

Spells of rain will move up across the country with mist and fog on hills. It will be mild and muggy overnight with the lowest temperatures ranging between 11 to 14 degrees.

Saturday morning and afternoon

A cloudy start with scattered outbreaks of rain. However, things will brighten up during the day with some sunshine.

Sadly, showers will develop also, some turning heavy with thundery downpours. Highest temperatures of 17 to 20 degrees.

Saturday night

Mild and humid with even more heavy or thundery showers in places. Mist, hill and coastal fog in parts too.

Sunday morning and afternoon

As stated by Met Eireann, expect to see some "widespread heavy slow-moving showers with thundery downpours leading to spot flooding. Some bright or short sunny spells too. Humid and rather warm with highest temperatures of 16 to 20 degrees."

Sunday night

Scattered showers will continue, mixed with some clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 12 to 14 degrees.

Monday morning and afternoon

Sadly, next week will start with even more heavy showers mixed in with sunny spells.

Later in the day, a more prolonged period of rain is likely to develop in southern parts of the country. Highest temperatures of 16 to 19 degrees are expected.

Monday night

Wet, breezy and possibly windy conditions are expected in most areas, although it might be drier in the northwest of the country.

Carlow Weather are also pessimistic about the conditions on Monday and they state: "Latest European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts keeps low on Monday/Tuesday further Southeast.

"This would mean we miss the worst of the winds but still very wet for some areas, though mainly Monday night. This low needs watching, the final path is hard to call."

Tuesday and Wednesday

At present, Met Eireann state: "Tuesday and Wednesday will be fresher days with sunny spells and scattered showers in moderate to fresh westerly breezes. Highest temperatures in the mid to high teens."
