Ireland weather: Met Eireann forecast 'prolonged' hot spell as best day of the week pinpointed

Met Eireann has forecast the return of scorching sunshine and dry spells, just as schools prepare to welcome back students.

After a few weeks of miserable weather, the forecast predicts we will see maximum sizzling temperatures up to 25 degrees across the country from Monday right through to the weekend.

Tuesday night will see dry and clear spells. Expected patches of mist and fog will develop in light easterly or variable breezes—the lowest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees.

Speaking on the last sunny blast of summer 2021, head of forecasting at Met Eireann, Evelyn Cusack, told Newstalk Breakfast: “It’s some great news weather-wise for the final week of the school holidays.”

She added: “It has been a bit dreary now for the last couple of weeks, but it’s very nice weather this week."

From Wednesday, Thursday and Friday Ireland will see dry, warm and mostly sunny days with light winds.

The country will see temperatures reaching “21 to 24 degrees most days, widely across the country on Wednesday.”

On Thursday, the highest temperatures will be in the southwest, where it may reach 25 degrees, as the winds take on a northerly aspect with a little more cloud in the northeast, keeping temperatures at about 19 or 20 degrees there.

On Friday, the higher temperatures will be away from east-facing coasts as the winds go easterly again; temperatures along the east coast will be around 19 or 20 degrees.

Carlow Weather took to Twitter to add: “We could be heading to a prolonged dry settled spell of weather as latest charts show high pressure into next week! Back to school as normal, some might say.”

Met Eireann’s forecast suggests that the settled spell will continue right through the week into the weekend, with mostly dry weather. However, there may be showers at times.

Temperatures are expected to stay in the twenties for the week.
