Ireland weather: Met Eireann forecast one more day of sun before 'unsettled' spell to bring thunderstorms

Ireland will have one more day of glorious weather before things start to get a bit nasty as thunderstorms roll across the nation.

Tuesday is set to be a scorcher, as the kids returning to school allows one last week of summer weather for parents and the rest of the population.

Even though temperatures will be as high as 26C, there is a brutal twist coming on Wednesday before what looks to be a fairly wet weekend for the All-Ireland football decider.

Here's the latest forecast from Met Eireann.

Tuesday

"Misty or foggy early this morning in many areas with impaired visibility leading to dangerous driving conditions. Mist and fog will quickly burn by mid-morning, becoming widely sunny. However, coastal fog will linger along parts of the east and south. Dry, humid and very warm today with top temperatures of 22 to 26 degrees, highest temperatures inland away from southern and eastern coastlines. Light southeast breezes"

Wednesday

"Warm and humid tomorrow with scattered showers, some of which will be heavy, mixed with sunny spells. Turning cloudier later in the day as showers become more widespread and prolonged. Highest temperatures of 20 to 24 degrees in a light to moderate southeast breeze."

Wednesday night

"Showers will become heavier and more widespread on Wednesday night. Staying mild and humid with temperatures generally not falling below 16 or 17 degrees with pockets of mist and fog developing once again."

Thursday

"Widespread showers will continue on Thursday, turning heavy at times with the potential for thunderstorms. Temperatures falling back slightly with highest temperatures of 18 to 21 degrees in a light southerly or variable breeze."

Thursday night

"Showers will ease and become more scattered on Thursday night, with some dry and clear spells developing. Lowest temperatures of 14 to 16 degrees with mist and fog developing in a light southerly breeze."
