Ireland weather: Met Eireann forecast for rest of July as holidaymakers pray for sun and heat

Met Eireann have given the forecast for the rest of July and anyone hoping for some summer sun will be bitterly disappointed.

Weather chiefs are expecting this mild but rainy period to last right into August with the occasional sunny day.

The current forecast shows that the country won't see a sustained period of dry weather for some time - to the dismay of staycationers.

Thursday to Sunday will be a mix of humid conditions, scattered showers and the occasional heavy downpour.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Unsettled and changeable weather pattern. Temperatures near normal at first, but turning fresher and cooler at the weekend and into early next week."

Unfortunately Monday is going to be a bad start to the week with persistent rain countrywide.

No major change is expected for the remainder of the week with poor conditions expected right into August.

The Met Eireann forecaster said: "Widespread rain is expected to affect the southwest on Monday morning, spreading to most parts of the country through the day and becoming heavy at times. There will be light to moderate southerly winds and afternoon temperatures will range 16 to 18 degrees.

"The last week of July is looking unsettled and changeable with further rain or showers moving through from the Atlantic, but some drier and brighter periods too."

And long range forecaster Accuweather are not predicting an upturn in our fortune at the start of August with mild temperatures and a lot of rain expected for the first week.
