Ireland weather: Met Eireann forecast changeable weather with big improvement coming

While this week's weather will be quite erratic with spells of rain and sunshine, next week is shaping up to be much better with weather models showing a chance of some higher pressure in the longer term for next week.

As for the remainder of this week, Met Eireann said that "changeable weather" will be seen but the weekend will bring some decent dry periods, but with rain or showers at times also and with temperatures in the mid to high teens.

The majority of the rainfall will arrive on Thursday, with some heavy rainfall moving in on Thursday night.

Here's what's in store for the coming days...

Wednesday morning and afternoon

Mostly cloudy with patchy outbreaks of rain and drizzle. However, drier and brighter weather will gradually move from the west during the afternoon and evening.

Highest temperatures of 15- 19 degrees.

Wednesday night

Mainly dry with clear spells and some patches of mist or fog developing. Later in the night, rain and drizzle will develop along the Atlantic coast.

Thursday morning and afternoon

Largely dry in the east with some early bright spells but as the day develops, more clouds will develop.

Conditions will be duller in the west with scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle, becoming heavy and frequent near the west coast in the evening, but it should stay mostly dry in the east and southeast. Highest temperatures of 17 to 20 degrees

Thursday night

Frequent or heavy rain with a risk of spot flooding will move in from the Atlantic.

Friday morning and afternoon

A wet start but the rain will gradually move eastwards through the morning as brighter, sunnier conditions and showers, some heavy, follow from the west. Highest temperatures of 16 to 18 degrees.

Friday night

Showers will continue but they will mostly die out overnight.

Saturday morning and afternoon

Mainly dry with bright or sunny spells. A few showers will occur, however, mainly in the west and northwest.

Highest temperatures of 15 to 18 degrees and there will be outbreaks of rain and drizzle extending eastwards overnight.

Sunday morning and afternoon

A damp or wet start to the day with outbreaks of rain and drizzle across the midlands, west and south.

It should mostly be dry in the east and northeast though. The rain and drizzle will break up into showers as the day goes on. Highest temperatures of 15 to 18 degrees.

Next week

Met Eireann has said: "Current indications for the early days of next week suggest a good deal of dry and bright weather with high pressure to the southwest exerting some dominance. Showers will still occur though, especially in the west and northwest."
