Ireland weather: Met Eireann forecast bright Bank Holiday before miserable change

Ireland will enjoy a relatively bright and sunny Bank Holiday before things take a turn for the worse next week.

Nice weather on Monday will come to an end when wet and windy conditions arrive on Tuesday.

Sadly, the forecast doesn't look like it's going to change for the rest of the week.

Meanwhile, Sunday will be bright but windy, with thunderstorms affecting the western half of the country.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Bright and breezy today with sunny spells. But scattered showers in the west this morning will spread to all areas through the afternoon and into this evening.

"Some of the showers will be heavy, with the chance of isolated thunderstorms, especially across western counties. Highest temperatures of 13 to 15 degrees, mildest and brightest in the east, with moderate to fresh and gusty southwest winds.

"Scattered showers will continue tonight, especially over the western half of the country. Becoming mostly dry in the east with good clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees in moderate southwest winds, remaining fresh to strong on coasts.

"A lot of dry and bright weather on Bank Holiday Monday. There will be scattered showers too, most of these over the western half of the country, remaining largely dry further east. The showers will be lighter and less frequent than on Sunday. But it will feel a little cooler, with highs of just 10 to 13 degrees in a moderate westerly breeze."

After a relatively nice few days, conditions will turn sour on Tuesday.

The forecaster continued: "A mild and breezy day. Damp with patchy drizzle in parts at first. Overall dry in the east and south with a few hazy sunny spells breaking through the cloud cover, whilst remaining rather dull elsewhere with outbreaks of patchy light rain or drizzle. Highs of 15 to 17 degrees, in moderate to fresh southerly winds, becoming strong to near gale on coasts. A more persistent band of rain will move into western areas later Tuesday evening.

"Wet and windy conditions sweeping in off the Atlantic to all areas Tuesday night. Mild with temperatures not falling below 12 to 14 degrees. Southerly winds remaining strong on coasts.

"A damp, cloudy start on Wednesday, soon clearing to showers and some sunny spells. Mild, with highs of 14 to 17 degrees, in a moderate southwesterly breeze. Cloud will likely build again from the south later in the day heralding the approach of another band of rain which moves up across the country on Wednesday night.

"A rather wet day on Thursday with outbreaks of rain in all areas, heavy at times with some localised flooding possible. Highs of 13 to 16 degrees in moderate southerly winds, becoming strong on coasts.

"Further outbreaks of rain or showers on Friday. Feeling a little cooler as temperatures return to near normal values for late October, with highs of 12 to 14 degrees."
