Ireland weather: Met Eireann forecast another wet week ahead of big change

Ireland looks set for another cloudy and wet week ahead of brighter conditions next weekend.

Despite earlier suggestions that the sun would return in the coming days, Met Eireann now believes it could be the weekend before summer returns.

The coming days will be mostly cloudy, with outbreaks of rain and drizzle at different points each day, mainly in the north and west.

The rain will become heavy on Thursday, coming into Friday.

A forecaster said: "A dull and misty start to Sunday with scattered outbreaks of light rain and drizzle. An overall improvement through the day though, as drier and brighter weather gradually extends from the northwest.

"Sunny spells will slowly break through with the last of the patchy rain and drizzle clearing the southeast during this afternoon. Top temperatures of 16 to 20 or 21 degrees Celsius, warmest for southern counties, in a mostly moderate north to northwest breeze.

"Overall cloudy on Monday with moderate northwest winds, with patchy rain or drizzle in the north and west. Generally dry elsewhere with some bright or sunny spells. Top temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees Celsius; mildest in the southeast and coolest towards the northwest.

"Mostly cloudy to begin on Tuesday with light outbreaks of rain and drizzle, becoming largely confined to the north and northwest by the afternoon. Some sunny spells in the southeast and east later where it will feel mild into the afternoon.

"Highest temperatures of 15 to 19 or 20 degrees Celsius, in mostly moderate northwest winds; coolest for north and west coasts, where northwest winds will be fresh."

They added: "Mostly cloudy or overcast with patchy light rain or drizzle and just light westerly or variable breezes. Some areas will stay dry but with limited sunny spells. Highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees Celsius, best values once again in the southeast and east."
